Summary

Responsible for handling assembly operations for the organization by assembling fabricated parts, such as walkways and stairways, to the highest quality and meeting production standards in performing the following duties:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assemble fabricated parts at floor stations following established procedures, guidelines, and instructions.

  • Uses hand and power tools and machines to assemble parts and examines connections for correct fit, ensuring all parts are screwed in correctly. 

  • Verifies, measures, tests, and calibrates parts and mechanisms to meet tolerances and product specifications and identifies components that fail tests or tolerance levels and repairs as necessary. 

  • Works under immediate supervision and relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the job's functions.

  • Understands production information, such as length, width and thickness, material type, and quantity to be processed.

  • Efficiently assembles parts to meet customer demands and specifications.

  • Keeps record of the number of pieces made.

  • Detects and reports defective materials or questionable conditions to the department lead or supervisor.

  • Works safely and follows prescribed safety regulations.

  • Practices correct ergonomics as instructed through safety training and by management.

  • Maintains work area and equipment in a clean and orderly condition, including cleaning at the end of shift.

  • Performs other related duties as required and assigned.


SKILLS AND SPECIFICATIONS

  • Takes direction from the Assembly department lead, supervisor, and Operations.

  • Works well with others and is willing to help fellow employees when directed.

  • Ability to read, write, and understand written directions.

  • Possesses problem-solving skills in detecting how to increase output and fix any errors.

  • Displays attention to detail and is mindful of the job at hand.

  • Has the stamina to work long hours on feet doing repetitive movements.

  • Demonstrates safety-conscious behavior.


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • A high school diploma or equivalent is preferred. 

  • 0-1 year of experience in an assembly environment or a related area.

  • Knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures within manufacturing.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS / WORK ENVIRONMENT

The physical demands described represent those that an employee must meet to perform the essential functions of this job successfully.

  • It is regularly required to talk and hear.

  • This position is active and requires standing, walking, and bending all day.

  • It is frequently required to lift and/or move items up to 50 pounds. If items are heavier than 50 pounds, seek the help of a lifting device, or request the assistance of a fellow employee(s) for a team lift.

  • Machinery and tool operation requires the use of safety equipment including, but not limited to, steel-toe shoes/boots, hearing protection, safety glasses, welding/cutting protective goggles, or helmet.

  • Wearing loose-fitting clothes is not permitted in some areas, and wearing jewelry such as rings, bracelets, and necklaces is not allowed.

  • The facility is not climate-controlled, so heat in the summer and cold in the winter are factors.
